Okay first off let’s just put this out in the open: I have gotten botox & I absolutely love it! A few disclaimers* I work for Spa Trouve, BUT I started getting botox before I worked there! And everything below is my personal opinion!

I had everyone ask me their questions about Botox, I recorded myself getting Botox (well technically Dysport) on Tuesday which is up on my YouTube! And now I’m going to answer those questions!!!

Question: Why do you get it? You don’t need Botox!

Answer: Getting Botox is actually preventative-it will help me from getting deeper wrinkles later on in life. Also, it’s personal preference. I get Botox in my forehead lines because when I’m completely relaxed you can still see fine lines on my forehead. Also when I smile one eyebrow raises and the other doesn’t. I dislike both of those things so this is why I started getting Botox. Plus it has additional perks like helping me not to get headaches as often and helping me to stop grinding my teeth at night.

Question: How long does it last?

Answer: Typically the product is supposed to last 3-4 months on average. But it’s different for everyone. For me, it’s usually around 3 months. This is nice because it isn’t something that’s permanent, so if you hate your treatment, it will wear off!

Question: Is it safe?

Answer: Yes! The amount of product being used for wrinkles and being preventative is very small.

Question: Does it actually work?

Answer: Yes it does! But in order for the results to stay with Botox or Dysport you do need to be consistent with your injections. For example, the last time I was injected was back in October, so now my product has worn off and I’ll be starting back at the beginning. If I would have stayed on top of it and made an appointment when I started noticing the Dysport wearing off my wrinkles wouldn’t have come back. Consistency is key.

Question: What is Dysport?

Answer: This is something I learned about a year ago. Dysport and Botox do the same thing, they are just created by different manufacturers. Kind of like Colgate and Crest toothpaste, same product, different companies. For me, Dysport tends to kick in a few days faster than Botox! But they both work just the same.

Question: How many units do you get?

Answer: I started off very very minimal. The first time I only got 9 units because I wanted to see how it worked. The second time I did 12 units and the third time I did 40 units-30 on my forehead/frown lines and 10 in my jaw muscles. The amount of units being used will be discussed with your injector. On average to treat frown and forehead lines it takes 30 units.

Question: Isn’t it expensive?

Answer: Again, this depends on how many units you are getting and where you are being treated. At Spa Trouve, your first time being injected is $10/unit then any treatment afterwards would be at retail price which is $12/unit. Question: Why would you want your face to be frozen?

Answer: Mine isn’t! I still make lots of expressions and most people wouldn’t even know I’ve had Botox! But if you want to be frozen zero judgement! YOU DO YOU! If it makes you feel good, then go for it 🙂 It’s all personal preference!

Question: Does it hurt?

Answer: Okay, the first time I got it done I brought a friend with me for moral support and I was kind of freaking out, because hello! Needles going into my face….not fun. BUT it wasn’t bad at all! I literally laughed at myself for being so dramatic about it. It’s not the most comfortable thing in the world of course, but it was not nearly as bad as I thought it’d be. It’s a tiny pinch and it’s super quick. Plus, in some of the spots I couldn’t feel an injection at all!

Question: Where do you go?

Answer: I go to Spa Trouve & have gone there for awhile now! My personal injector is Lauren Mitchell (@nurselaurenbeauty)! But I also have worked under Kaycee Jackson (@skincovet). All of the injectors that we have at Spa Trouve are awesome! Finding an injector you love is very important! Especially because you want to be able to trust them and know that their work is incredible! So do your research and book a consultation first!
