Valentine’s Day is coming up and it’s got me thinking a lot about romance and dating. Currently I’m not dating anyone and usually it’s super hard for me being single during the month of February because I’m constantly reminded of how I don’t have someone to cuddle up to on the day of love and I usually spend the holiday alone, but this year it’s different. This year it’s easy because I’ve come to realize that it’s okay to be single and even more so it’s okay to be happy during the month of February.

Yes it would be awesome to have a Valentine, to be brought on a special date or receive flowers, chocolates and other various gifts. Yes it would make my entire year if I got flowers sent to work. Yes I would be over the moon to be spoiled. If anyone is a sucker for sappiness it’s me. But just because those things aren’t happening does not mean that I need to be sad about it. Here’s why. If someone isn’t treating me special, leaving me love notes or buying me flowers that does not mean that I am not special, it does not mean that I am unloveable, it does not mean I do not deserve flowers.

Your happiness should not be dependent upon having a Valentine. Don’t wait around for someone else to make you happy or spoil you. Make yourself happy. Go buy yourself flowers or chocolates. Make yourself smile. You deserve it.

Someday there will be someone in your life who will do these things for you, but just because you may not have that person in your life right now, does not mean that you have to miss out on the perks of Valentines day. When someone comes along it will be an added bonus, until then, treat yourself to something that’ll bring happiness. I’m eating from a box of chocolates that I bought myself as I write this and I will go to Costco and buy myself flowers on Valentines Day because why the heck not?!
